an insight in to what will be an exciting 2018

During the Annual General Meeting it was unanimously agreed that 2018 should be a celebration of the last 170 years of Wargrave Cricket Club. The meeting mandated the Committee to build on this rich heritage to become the most respected club in the Thames valley League and in Berkshire.

Berkshire Cricket have already recognised our facilities, support and culture by asking us to host a number of prestigious county matches during 2018.

To support our vision we now have some endorsed club values that we should expect each of us to maintain:

RESPECT : respect for the club badge and what comes with it ,everything it stands for, respect for our heritage, respect for each other, the umpires, the team , the opposition, the facilities, and the community and generally to strive to gain respect from others.
CONTRIBUTION: personal endeavour on the field, within the teams and generally within the club. It’s about club contribution not just self-performance.
PRIDE: in our heritage, in ourselves, in each other, in the club, in all of the teams , and in everything we do.
IMPROVEMENT through continuously striving for personal , team and club improvement but not just improvement in performance, improvement in respect, in personal contribution , in behaviour, in the facilities, in everything .
SUPPORT: strive to support the leagues, the county, the community and each other and the club

These club values are what we are about and what our club badge stands for. To support that we are adopting grey, red and yellow as the new club colours and have already commissioned a redecoration of the club house bar to remind us all of the badge and what it stands for. You will also see the colours appearing in others ways, in a new flag and on club kit.

We have lots of other ideas to promote the badge but as part of this celebration year the Committee are looking for all areas of the club , each age group , each team to suggest some appropriate ways of celebrating our heritage whilst promoting our values. To that end and to ensure everything is coordinated it is intended to form a celebration committee with representatives from the various parts of the club tasked with financing, planning , coordinating ,arranging and delivering anything agreed. Events inevitably need to be self funding or funded through donations/ sponsorship or team fund raising efforts.

We need you all to get involved and to support the celebrations. Everybody can contribute suggestions and get involved in delivering and fund raising. This is an opportunity for everybody but we do need representatives from each aspect of the club to be active in forming the celebration committee. So when you next meet in your groups talk about our values and how best to support the club and please nominate somebody as a representative. Volunteers are always welcomed!

As a further part of our further cricket development we want to promote consistency in approach across our various teams . We have prepared a players’ charter outlining our consistent expectations so players can move seamlessly between teams. I’m sure Neal Robinson as our Head of Cricket will be sharing it with you all.

Lets make 2018 a successful and enjoyable season that truly celebrates our incredible heritage.
