Wargrave 4th XI make it three wins in a row with a strong all round performance against Reading United.

Wargrave Cricket Club's 4th XI showcased their prowess on the pitch yet again as they secured a convincing victory against Reading United CC's 4th XI. The clash, which unfolded at the picturesque Wargrave C.C. ground, was a testament to the team's exceptional performance and depth.

Winning the toss and choosing to field, Reading United CC aimed to make a dent in Wargrave's batting lineup early on. However, Wargrave's opening duo, Thomas Tabrah and Kyle Bradley, had different plans. Their steady partnership weathered the initial storm, laying the foundation for what was to come.

Thomas Tabrah's resilient 27-run contribution set the stage, but it was Rajiv Dhallam's poised innings that truly caught the eye. Dhallam's 44 runs, backed by solid shot selection, fortified Wargrave's position. Nandan Sant's aggressive 37 runs injected the innings with momentum, while Poppy Burnyeat, Achint Rajeev and Trevor Bennett all added quick valuable runs to the total.

The Wargrave innings, collectively reaching 177 runs, bore testimony to Wargrave's intent to put on a competitive show with a number of solid partnerships. Reading United were committed in the field with the wickets taken shared amongst the bowlers, but they couldn't stop Wargrave compiling a solid total in their innings.

Reading United CC's chase, however, was fraught with challenges as Wargrave's bowlers took centre stage. Kit Jeary's excellent and controlled bowling rattled the top order, claiming the wickets of SreeRam Krishna and Srinivas Rao in quick succession. Ethan Meeres, Steve Forster, and Achint Rajeev's effective contributions further pinned Reading United CC down.

The resolute Reading United CC team encountered difficulties as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Sai Unnava managed to muster a noteworthy 18 runs, contributing the highest individual score for the team. But the consistent pressure exerted by Wargrave's bowling line-up proved too much to overcome. The Reading United innings was ended by Jonah Holloway taking his first wicket in adult cricket.

Wargrave's disciplined bowling performance, with Kit Jeary leading the charge with three crucial wickets, limited Reading United CC to a mere 87 runs. Wargrave's teamwork and their ability to seize crucial moments swung the match decisively in their favour.

The highlight of the encounter was undoubtedly Wargrave's all-round effort. The batting unit's synchronization and the bowlers' relentless attack showcased their unity and determination. The result left Reading United CC struggling to cope, and Wargrave emerged triumphant with a dominating performance.

In an all round team performance it is difficult to choose between the most valuable contribution and that should be shared between Rajiv Dhallam and Kit Jeary. Rajiv Dhallam delivered a pivotal knock that anchored Wargrave's innings. His blend of caution and aggression set the tone for the team's batting showcase. Young bowler Kit Jeary, given the responsibility of opening the bowling, gave an excellent display of seam bowling and his consistent line and length got three crucial wickets that sealed the win for Wargrave.

Wargrave Cricket Club's 4th XI continues to shine brightly in the Berkshire Cricket League Division 4 2023. Their recent victory, making it three in a row, serves as a testament to their growing prowess and undying commitment to the game. As the last two games of the league unfolds, Wargrave's performances will undoubtedly be watched closely by both fans and rivals alike.
