An excellent all round performance helps Wargrave edge a thrilling match against Sandhurst that goes down to the last over.

Sandhurst Cricket Club witnessed a gripping encounter as Wargrave 4th XI emerged victorious in a closely contested battle against Sandhurst 2nd XI in the Berkshire Cricket League Division 4. In a tense clash where every run mattered, Wargrave displayed nerves of steel to secure a thrilling win by a mere two wickets.
Wargrave won the toss and elected to bat first, looking to gain an early advantage. The decision proved fruitful as Wargrave built a solid platform for the innings. Tom Tabrah's 22 runs and Sam Beale's 15 provided a steady start, but Sachin Malhi's disciplined bowling kept the batsmen in check.

As the innings progressed, Wargrave's batsmen had to work hard to maintain momentum. John Beale's vital contribution of 34 runs and Hitessh Lingala's quickfire 21 kept the scoreboard ticking. However, Sandhurst CC's fielding was impressive, resulting in crucial run-outs and timely breakthroughs.

With both teams putting up a valiant fight, the pressure intensified towards the end of the innings. Archie Sanders and Charlie Desborough's impressive bowling performances, complemented by tight fielding, restricted Wargrave to 148 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 40 overs.

In response, Sandhurst CC faced an uphill task in chasing down the target. Atif Qadar's 11 runs provided a steady start, but the hero of the innings was Frankie Desborough. The wicketkeeper-batsman showcased great determination and technique, crafting a hard-fought 48 runs off 99 balls. However, Sandhurst CC struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at crucial junctures.

Nandan Sant's crucial contribution with both bat and ball was a turning point in the game. After scoring 15 runs, he made his mark as a bowler, claiming two crucial wickets. Rajiv Dhallam and Steve Forster also chipped in with vital wickets, putting Sandhurst CC under pressure.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Sean Gale's 16 not out provided hope for Sandhurst CC. However, the disciplined bowling from Wargrave, particularly by Sam Beale, who took two wickets, and Rajiv Dhallam, who took one, restricted the scoring opportunities.

As the tension mounted in the closing stages, Sandhurst CC's hopes of a miraculous comeback were dashed when they fell short by just six runs. Wargrave managed to secure a hard-fought victory, taking the thrilling contest down to the wire.

Both teams displayed tremendous sportsmanship and determination throughout the match, making it a memorable fixture for the fans in attendance. The closely fought encounter showcased the true spirit of cricket, where every run and wicket mattered.
