The sun was shining as the U9s opened their league fixtures away at Hurley. With most of the team made up of U8s, including some playing their first game of cricket, it was going to be a challenge, but one they took on with relish.
Hurley batted first, but some controlled bowling from the boys restricted them to 253 for 6. Impressive bowling figures of 2 wkts from Max, 1 from Ollie and 1 (inswinger knocking out middle stump no less) from Finlay. Special mention also to Ash for a great run out, to Xavier for a calm wicket keeper stumping and to Joseph for good fielding.
So, with a gettable run chase the boys started in steady fashion, before boundaries were smashed by Toby, Max, Teo, James and Achint. Despite a slightly nervy last over when a couple of wickets went down, they hung on to reach a winning total of 261 for 3.
A deserved win for a good all round performance - well done boys.
