Wargrave under 13's start the season with a win

The under 13's got the season underway at wargrave in a league cup game against visitors cookham dean on Wednesday evening

Cookham won the toss and elected to field. The wargrave openers of George Cook and Ollie Withers made a solid start and took the score to 45 with Withers departing for a fine 24 including, 3 boundaries, this brought Charlie Moss to the wicket to partner Cook and they continued to tick the score over until George Cook departure for a fine 13. Euan woods entered the fray and set about the bowling to push the scoring rate up until he retired for a fine chanceless 31. Moss went for 8 with a familiar family hit accross the line leaving Matty Edgar and Matthew Piercy to push the score up to a competive 96 for 3 from our alloted 20 overs.

The policy of trying some of the new boys in the side paid dividens from the start with Andrew Hattey picking up a wicket with his 1st delivery in under 13 cricket, his opening ball partner Matty Edgar bowling an excellent line and lenght at the other end, however batsmen 2 and 3 for cookham were fine players with the ability to put away any bad balls and our captain Euan Woods continued to rotate the bowling giving Stuart Robbins his first bowl at wargrave but the breakthrough didnt come, both cookham batsmen retired at 30 and then the floodgates opened in dramatic fashion as Captain Woods brough on his most experinced and quickest bowlers Henry Atkinson and Charlie Moss, this turned the game as both bowlers pitched the ball up and looked for wickets, Cookham lost their last 6 wickets for 11 runs with Moss finishing with figures of 2-2 and Atkinson with remarkable figures of 4 wickets for 1 run off 3 overs. Cookham Dean all out for 82.

An excellent game of cricket played in good spirit, thanks to Alex Woods for the warm up and Bob Austin for umpire duties.

Plenty to work on for the season to find the best combinations whilst batting and bowling but the boys fielded well and got rewarded with a win in the first game of 2012.
