Hat trick hero Robbins takes the spoils

With a scattering of cloud and no rain Wargrave hosted Woodley under 13's on thursday evening. The weather that has caused chaos to junior cricket this season had meant we had not played a game or trained for weeks so the boys were expected to be a little rusty!

Captain for the night Henry Atkinson lost the toss and we were asked to bowl first, opening up with Charlie Moss and Sammi Colbourne, we bowled a good line and Woodley found runs hard to come by, this tight bowling lead to a wicket each for the opening bowlers and woodley struggling at 12 for 2 of 5 overs. Captain Atkinson changed the bowling bringing on Woods and himself and this brough brought instant rewards as woodley slumped to 24 for 4 off 11 overs... The bowling was rotated to give boys a few overs that are not regular bowlers and this had an amazing outcome!! Stuart Robbins having previously bowled 1 over all season accoutned for 3 Woodley players in one over! all consecutive! yes a hat trick! amazing feat and something bowlers go all their career and never achieve... well done stuart. The inning continued after the celebrations and good bowling changes got woodley up to 56 for 8 wickets after 20 overs

Chasing a low total we decided to give some of the lower order batsmen the chance to spend some time in the middle and go for the total. Our openers Hayes and Piercy started with little trouble and the scoreboard ticked over to 17 then Matt piercy fell caught in the covers, this started a mini collapse as our younger batters showed a little inexperience as Kirker, Leigh, Vonka and Cook all went for single figures... The skies began to darken so Euan Woods went in to join opener hayes who then was out trying to push the score along, he fell for a very well played 17. Charlie Moss joined Woods and our two most senior batsmen were at the crease and woods made short work of the 20 odd needed and 1.5 overs later we have reached our target with woods finishing on 22 not out.

This game felt like a season opener due to the amount of cricket lost for weatehr but the boys did well and once again the fielding was good, the side was very well captaind by Atkinson and the hat tick for Robbins will be something im sure he will remember for years to come as he took the match ball home to mark this feat.
