Wargrave progress to next round with win at windsor

Wargrave Under 13's made the club debut in the julian Cup Colts competion on friday night. A hot but very windy evening in the backdrop of a fairly impressive detached house called Windsor castle saw wargrave win the toss and elect to bat as both managers were still fighting through the rush hour traffic and windsor tourists.

Our regular combination of Euan Woods and Ollie Withers opened our account at a stunning pace, Woods was relentless in the pursuit of boundaries and put the windsor bowlers to the sword. The score had reached 51 when Withers was bowled for 9, an excellent innings giving the strike to Euan where possible and running hard between the wickets. This brought new boy Faeez Shamsi to the wicket who carried the scoring on until he fell for 9 to what would be best desribed as an interesting LBW decision, Charlie Moss joined the still present Euan Woods who was by now passed 50 and enjoying the 8 over allocation at the crease, he was the next to leave the field but retired not out under the rules of the julian cup for 66 runs with 52 of these runs scored in boundaries! thats more than his dad has hit in the last 5 years... a superb innings that laid the foundation to post a big score. The lower middle order of Sulaman, Robbins, cook, hayes and piercy all played there shots and ran well to close our innings on 125 for 7 wickets off 16 overs with Moss finishing 15 not out.

The Windsor reply got underway against an excellent opening spell by Shamsi and Atkinson, the opening pair were good criketers but could not force the pace at the requried rate, they bother retired not out after 8 overs with the score on 31. Windsor now requried 9 runs per over and this was always an unlikely ask so captain Woods rotated the bowlers, using 9 different boys, with charlie Moss picking up 1 wicket and Sammi colbourne his first under 13 wicket after a good stumping by Hayes.

Windsor finished on 60 for 5 after their 16 overs, we fielded well and got 3 run outs, from a coaching point a view an excellent display all round as we move into the 1/4 finals with a home leg to come against Burnham

many thanks to martin for scoring, Bob Austin for umpire duties once again, the parents that came along enjoyed the evening so hope to see a few more supporting at our next home game.
