Wargrave suffer big defeat in League Cup

Well what a difference 2 days make, from our display in victory at Windsor to a defeat in the cup at Boyne Hill.

Having lost the toss Wargrave were asked to bat first on a lovely evening for cricket. Our openers of Woods and Withers however were to be together but 1 over after Woods hit a full toss back to the bowler to be on his way for 4 runs, this was to start an avalanche of wickets as batsmen came and went at regular intervals, the scoreboard ticking over with extra's and the odd boundary but Wargrave found themself all out for 52 in the 11th over wit hStuart Robbins finishing on 6 not out after a much accomplised display. Not a single batsmen made double figures with Boyne hill using 4 excellent bowlers, one of which would have been a lot quicker than a lot of the boys would have faced, credit here to Hashim Sulaman, Matty Edgar, Sammi Coulbourne, George Cook and Andrew Hattey who showed the older boys at the top of the order how to play straight and not play silly shots and give thier wickets away cheaply.

Defending a mere 52 runs was always likely to be big ask but the opening bowlers of Woods and Atkinson put the ball in good area's and asked questions of the openers, from the sidelines it became apparent that Boyne Hill rely on the two openers to get most of thier runs and this was evident in the way the boys batted, a couple of lofted shots fell in gaps when another day they would have gone to hand but it was not be our day and the scoreboard ticked over, the runs began to flow, the bowling was rotated to seek the wicket but with such a low total Boyne Hill reached the target in the 9th over for the loss of no wickets.

The bonus of the day was how the boys tried until the end with excellent committed fielding and bowling display, they walked off knowing they could do better but we cant win matches only scoring 52, the top order must play more sensibly to make sure we use the overs and reach the 15th over with wickets in hand, batting is much easier when you spend time in the middle....

Thank you to Chris Lunn for scoring and Alex Woods for the warm up, per usual Bob Austin who must have umpired more overs than Aleem Dar in the trent bridge test in the last week!

Lets get back to winning ways on Thursday at home in the league against Binfield, would be good to see more parents to cheer the lads on as they do indeed raise thier game to some support so come along and have a drink and watch the boys return to winning action.
