Wargrave Under 13 into Julian Cup semi finals

Our second game of the week saw the under 13 side tackle Burnham at home in the Julian Cup at quarter final stage.

Having once again won the toss skipper Euan Woods elected to bowl with the new ball, the wicket having been covered for the past few days for rain was likely to be a little more bowler friendly than normal.

Our opening Bowling pair of Shamsi and Atkinson were straight on the money, bowling a good line and lenght, little that the Burnham openers could do and the first 4 overs passed for only 17 Runs. A double change in bowlers brought a wicket as Moss came on and was rewarded with a wicket in his first over, woods operating from the other end was difficult to get away. The burnahm innings progressed slowly and wickets were lost at regular intervals and they finished their 16 overs on 61 for 6,the bowlers all bowled well and wickets were shared by Moss, Colbourne and Shamsi.

With skies becoming darker and with rain in the air the wargrave openers started with the intention of quick runs, this proved the undoing of Atkinson who fell for 2, Shamsi came in to join Woods and the pair set about the bowling as the weather deteriated further, these two took us to the total in 6.3 overs! woods finishing the game with towering 6, woods 36 not out and shamsi 12 not out.

This was the best display of the season by the boys, the bowlers were more consistent and the fielding was excellent, at last the catches went to hand, not least the diving effort by Atkinson, the whole fielding display was a credit to the boys, they all fielded well and proved how valuable this side of the game is and that restricted Burnahm to a below par total.

The under 13 team now equal the mens first team as we are both now in the semi finals, thanks to Jon Colbourne for umpire duties and to the Burnham players.
