The birth of Huw's new nickname

Disclaimer: Again, didn’t take a photo of the scorebook. Rough estimates to be used. Only one statistic mattered in this game, and it was a big one… that’s right, 1-19 off 4.

I will absolutely be first to admit that pouncing upon others failures in an attempt to draw humour and make people laugh at them is absolutely my bread and butter. I know it’s a sad state of affairs, but that’s where the money is in match report writing these days. The crowd is constantly baying for blood and they must be fed. The biggest questions of my writing are; what happens when the team puts in a top-quality all-round performance? Will I be able to still be funny? Have I ever been?

I’ll save you the time. No, probably not.

Wargrave made the trip to the eye-catching village of Bray to bounce back from the disappointing yet spirited defeat the week previous to Yateley. The side was bolstered by the return of The Chairman™ to the line-up and equally bolstered by H. Singh needing to pull out of the game the day before due to injury. Oh look, a joke at the expense of someone’s feelings. The good stuff. For the second week in a row Captain Walker won the toss and for the first week in a row made the correct decision to have a bat first.

Wargrave opened up with Taran (130) and Kieran (26?) opened the batting and batted maturely for their ages. Building a healthy partnership for the first wicket. Sohi Jr being the more aggressive of the openers, helping to power the Wargrave side out of the starting blocks. Kieran was first to fall after playing a brilliant supporting role in the opening partnership. This brought the newly named ‘Boom Boom’ Thomas (50 odd) to the crease to bludgeon (yes you read that correctly) some quick runs to add to the total. I’m gunna guess we ended on about 265-5.

Then Wargrave just bowled really well. Nothing too fancy about it, just consistently good bowling. Bar the Exocet missile sent down by Frenchie for his first ball bowled. To call it a beamer would quite frankly be kind to what on earth it was and hugely disrespectful to all beamers ever bowled. The bowling unit each did their bit to be able to put the cherry on top of an excellently well-rounded performance by WCC that the club will hope they can continue moving forward. Started off by F. Lanch taking a wicket in the first over, backed up by some fiery seam bowling by Rimmer and Frenchie who both managed to either pitch it or bowl on the offside… sometimes both. The M&B innings was skilfully finished off by the slower stuff by Scott and Andrew H.

Man of The Match: Taran Sohi. Fantastic innings once again.
