Nail-biting 5 run victory

Batting first, Wargrave made a strong start scoring 40 in the first 7 overs with Imran Malik and Sami Colbourne running well between the wickets and playing several elegant shots, a highlight being Imran gorgeous pull for six over midwicket. It was a surprise when Imran chipped out for 25, but this brought Adit Rajeev to the crease who batted sensibly for 22 before also holing out trying to move the score along. Jamie joined the party and added a quick 10 before he and Sami (27) lost their wickets in quick succession. Alex Bishop and Taren Sohi finished things off nicely with a speedy 15 and 6 runs respectively to post a competitive score of 122 for 4.

Andrew Hattey, Jordan Mortimer, Chimney Kale and Hash Sulaman all bowled steadily, reducing Henley to 42 for 4 from their first 10 overs, but some powerful batting from Henley’s Harry Maskell (50 retired) took them to within 11 runs of victory with 2 overs to go. Up stepped captain Adit Rajeev, in the rain and the dark, to bowl the crucial penultimate over which went for only one run. Then Imran Malik finish things off professionally, only three runs coming from the last over, resulting in Wargrave winning by 5 runs.

It was a complete team performance. Alex Bishop kept wicket securely and the fielding was sharp with Hash Sulaman in particular throwing himself around like a man possessed. Everyone contributed and supported each other well under the astute field placing and captaincy of Adit Rajeev.

Roll on the next round!
