Against Boyne Hill, the Ones needed to capitalise on their good start to offer any challenge to the new league leaders. After a steady opening stand of 70, the middle order imploded as the score fell to 116 for 6. Imran once again batted well for his 43 whilst Luke's innings of 40 contained an unexpected maximum.
After the latter's demise at 70 the middle order fell away leaving Tom and Alex to mount a recovery stand of 66. After Alex was dismissed at 182 for a patient and well crafted 36, Tom scored all but 2 of the runs needed to reach the final total of 213, being left undefeated on a very good knock of 57.
When Boyne Hill began against the spin twins they rode their luck against a number of appeals, slowly but surely getting themselves in. Their partnership blossomed as runs came more and more easily. A 10 wicket win was on the cards when Tom Mellor (68) poked at one to give Tom a simple catch behind. Olly Clayson (88) was batting beautifully when, much to his disgust, he was smartly caught by Luke ( not as good as his one at Slough which I forgot to mention).
With the score at 171 for two, the result was a formality and Hill, 7 overs later, ran out victors.
Wargrave face Hurst in the last of the first half games on Saturday. Their opponents, after a bad start, have raced up the table and having mauled Wycombe in their last game will pose a difficult challenge. Wargrave have shown that they have the batsmen to survive at this level and if all of them show good resolve and concentration and try to score off only bad balls, then anything is possible.
