Another comfotable win for the 2nds on Saturday away at Kew saw them stay top of Thames Valley League 7a.

On a dull overcast afternoon Kew won the toss and elected to bat. This decision was based mainly on the fact that they only had 8 players at the time. Simon French & Jarryd Wallace opened the bowling for Wargrave. They both bowled well with French in particular getting good pace and bounce out of the wicket. Capt Scott Walker replaced Wallace after 8 overs and he immediately had an impact trapping opener Bath LBW for 11 runs in his second over. French then hit the other opening batsman Bentley on his right thumb with a quick short ball and the batsman had to leave the field to receive treatment. This precipitated a small collapse as Walker claimed another 2 quick wickets leaving the Kew innings in a bit of a mess at 19 -3. The injured Bentley decided to return to the fray after this and with the help of the Kew capt Lakitos they staged a mini revival. They took the attack to the bowling team and soon had the score up to a more respectable 45 for 3. At this point young leg spinner Archie Withers replaced French and in his first over had Lakitos caught in the covers. Walker then got claimed another couple of quick wickets and when he had Bentley caught on the long on boundary the home teams total was a measly 60 for 6. In his next over Walker removed the Burnett for 0 Kew had reached 64-7. As Wargrave waited for the next batsman to walk to the crease they were told that the 2 players Kew were waiting for had failed to appear and that was the end of the innings.
So the Kew innings closed on 64 with Walker taking 6-18.

With the teas not yet ready and with rain threatening it agreed to start the second innings straight away. Martin Woods opened with youngster Emma Walker. In the third over Walker was caught for 0 and this brought another young player Oscar Gutierrez to the crease. He immediately put bat to ball scoring 19 runs in 5 overs. This coupled with Martin Woods finding the middle of his bat soon had the scoreboard moving quickly. The score had reached 49 when Gutierrez was caught but with Sam Bowers joining Woods at the crease the total was soon reached and the visitors had won by 8 wickets with Woods finishing on 42 not out.

Although this was a another good win for Wargrave 2nd eleven in their quest to get promoted this season it was disappointing to play against just 8 players. Credit to Kew who showed good character and good spirit as they played on in the rain so Wargrave could get to their target.
