On a bright sunny morning Wargrave won the toss and captain George Luckwell elected to field first.
Some good early bowling from Tom Walker (2-1-3-1) and Freddie Redrup (2-0-4-1) saw them both take wickets in their early bowling spells. This was followed by Sammi Colvin taking a wicket with his first delievery. At this point Binfields middle order managed to put on some valuables runs and the saw them finsh with a creditable total of 63. All the Wargrave players bowled 2 overs each and their total of just 10 wides and 2 no balls was an excellent peformance and went a long way in keeping the Binfield total down to a manageable score. Great credit to Alex Flann for the way he kept wicket.
Wargrave got off to a promising start with Freddie Lewenden and Fred Redrup batting well. Binfields bowling and fielding was very good and at the half way stage of the Wargrave innings a home team victory looked unlikely. Then the Binfields bowling became a bit wayward and the runs started to pile up for Wargrave. With some good batting by the later batsmen particularly Alex Flann, with one over to go Wargave needed 5 runs to win. When James Robinson was out after the third ball of the over the odds were against a home win. But Alex hit 2 of the next ball and that left 3 needed to win with 2 balls left. The next ball was a dot ball, so it was now 3 to win off 1 ball. The bowler who had bowled very well in this final over let the nerves get to him and he bowled a no ball which Alex also hit and then managed to run a single of the no ball. So it meant with 3 coming off that ball that Wargrave had won off the last ball.
It was a great finsh to a terrific mornings cricket. We need to give a big thanks to Binfield who were so unlucky not to win. Really though this was all about the boys from both teams being given the chance to play and compete in a friendly but competative enviroment.
