It was a cold night at The Rec tonight, but the u11s kept their winning start to the season going with a tight victory against Crowthorne.
The visitors batted first and scored steadily, assisted by a few more extras than ideal. But the boys fielded well, and 3 run outs meant they kept the scoring under control. Achint and Jake B picked up a couple of nice wickets late on, meaning the target was 274 to win. Could the boys keep warm enough to score the runs, and had they eaten enough carrots to see in the dark?
They got off to a flying start, with Achint (top scorer) and Zander finding the boundary rope and running well, to get us up to 233 runs after their 4 overs. Josh also found the boundary, but the run rate did slow a little during the middle order, meaning we were left with 16 to win off the last 4 overs. Alec was clearly in control of the situation (after he get bowled), and along with Jake bought us to within touching distance. So with one ball left, we were in the lead, but only by 4 - so losing a wicket would lose us the game! We needn't have worried, with Alec knocking a 4 to give the boys a hard fought win.
Good for the boys to win a close game, and well done to Crowthorne for some good cricket and sportsmanship. Kept the crowd entertained til the end, but hopefully the temperature will rise for all future games this season.
