With many of our team knowing the opposition from down the road, this was always one the boys were keen to win. And they did.
A steady batting performance exploded into life with some big hitting from top scorers Joseph and Alec in particular. Assisted by some good decision making and running between the wickets, and a solid undefeated innings from Jake, the boys posted a total of 289 for 5 from their 20 overs. Twyford had fielded well though, and the boys were going to have to perform well to prevent Twyford from reaching the target.
Coach Andy had gave them a target of conceding less than 10 wides from their 20 overs, and whilst they just missed out on achieving that (12 wides) they excelled in all other departments. The wickets fell at regular intervals due to some great bowling and fielding. Special mention to Josh and Jago for picking up a couple of wickets each, one each for Sam and Joseph, plus a great one handed wicket keeper catch from Dylan. The boys were sharp in the field throughout, and in the end restricted Twyford to a score of 236 for 8.
Unfortunately some fooling around before our fielding innings meant we lost one of our players through injury. Those involved know who they were! We all wish Jake a speedy recovery, and as explained clearly after the game, if anything similar happens at future games the boys will not be selected to play in the subsequent game.
But, more positives than negatives from today, and the undefeated start to the season continues. Well played boys.
