On a proper summers evening at Wargrave, our u11s put on a great all round show to book their place in the Season Finale next Sunday. We didn't know a great deal about West Ilsley, other than they had finished top of their own league, so the boys would have to be at their best to get a result.
And from the first over of the game, that's just what they did. WI batted first but after 3 overs were 3 wickets down, and with a finishing clatter of 8 wickest falling in the last 4 overs, it left them with a score of 202 for 17. The wickets were spread around amongst the boys, with Joseph, Jake, Sam, Achint, Zack, Angus, Dylan all picking up wickets, and Freddie (obviously inspired by his meeting with another Freddie (photo above) in mid week) managed to claim 4 of them plus a run out.
What looked like a very gettable total, was in a little bit of doubt to start with, but once Jake (17) and Joseph (19) had made an impression Wargrave were always in control. Thomas and Freddie were the other two to get into double figures, and meant that Wargrave finished on 295 for 5.
A great performance by all the boys, and a deserved place in the final. And we also need to remember that we've only made the final due to the efforts of all 20 boys in the squad over the season, in addition to the 10 who appeared in the semi-final. Well done the u11s.
