I didn't witness it myself, but Laurence has kindly prepared the following words, to describe the game that bought the title to Wargrave !!!

Following last weeks excellent win at Henley, the U11’s went into their final game against Sonning needing a win to top the league and maintain their unbeaten record. The team was Kieran, Zander, Sam, Jake, Joseph, Charlie, Thomas, Harry, Dylan, Freddie. Sonning won the toss and elected to bowl first, clearly looking to give their batsman an achievable target to go at. Wargrave, however, had other ideas. With instructions to ‘bat their age’ the opening two pairs made a fantastic start making 40 runs without loss of a wicket. This set the tone for the innings with strong performances throughout – the highlights being a fabulous six from Thomas, along with some great fours, and some sublime stroke play from Freddie in the last pairing for no loss. This set a target of 294 for 7.

With a good score behind them and their tails up the boys set about their bowling with the same purpose as their batting. Wickets fell from the first ball with a great catch by Thomas at extra cover from Sam’s bowling. With the boys looking sharp in the field, wickets continued to fall leaving Sonning at 230 for 4 after 10 overs. The boys continued to keep their concentration in the field and the bowling tight restricting the home side to only two runs in the four overs from 13 to 16. Further wickets then fell in the final four overs through some excellent keeping and attacking fielding, leaving the home team on 264 for 7. A fantastic result for the team on the day and for the squad across the whole season. Well done boys!
